a summary of the trip from Doris Dubielzig

Dear Friends, Students and Visitors to the Lakeshore Nature Preserve,

Thank you for joining us on Glen Stanosz’ Trees of the Preserve tour. I was pleased to see that seven of you, on Dave Mickelson’s geology field trip last week, returned for today’s tour. My summary, below, has been edited by Glen, but it does not include many of the amazing details and concepts that he covered. I’ve also attached a few photos. The one of the fungus up close and personal was taken by Ann Burgess, who’s the Director Emeritus of the Biocore Curriculum.

We hope you’ll join us next Sunday, September 24, from 1:30 - 3pm, when the 4th Sunday Birding and Nature Walk will be led by arborist Sean Gere and Eagle Heights Gardens Manager, Will Waller. From them, you’ll learn how Wisconsin’s native trees and shrubs grow and how to prune them and fruit trees. Meet at the Picnic Point parking lot again.

We can also use your help! Our next Volunteer Work Party, supervised by the Preserve’s Volunteer Coordinator, Bryn Scriver, is Sunday, October 1, from 9am - noon. Report to the Frautschi Point parking lot (3034 Lake Mendota Drive).

Yours,

Doris Dubielzig, Vice President
Friends of the Lakeshore Nature Preserve
