Taxonomic notes: This species was removed from the synonymy of Megaelosia goeldii by Giaretta, Bokermann and Haddad (1993), where it had been placed by Lutz (1930).
This species is known from the region of the type locality (Alto da Serra), and Boraceia, in the state of São Paulo, Brazil, and probably occurs at least a little more widely. It has been recorded between 700-900m asl.
It occurs along small to medium-sized mountain streams in the forest. Adults and juveniles are diurnal and have been observed on large rocks, or in the water. Larvae have been observed in slow water in the deepest parts of a mountain stream.
The major threats are unknown, but the species' habitat is secured within a very good protected area.
This species has recently tested positive for Batrachochytrium dendrobatidis infection (Toledo et al., 2006b).
Listed as Data Deficient in view of continuing uncertainties as to its extent of occurrence, status and ecological requirements.
