This species is known only from two localities in the state of Bahia in eastern Brazil: Fazenda Luzitania on the Rio Almada near Ilheus; and Santa Teresinha. It presumably occurs more widely, including in intervening areas between the two known localities. It is found up to 800m asl.
There is very little information on the population status of this species, which is known from only four specimens.
At Fazenda Luzitania, a single specimen was collected in a cacao farm under cacao trees, bananas and some larger, emergent shade trees, on the ground in the leaf-litter near a small creek. At Santa Teresinha specimens were collected in terrestrial bromeliads in forest. This species is presumed to breed by direct development.
The major threats to it are probably related to habitat loss due to agricultural development, creation of wood plantations, collection of bromeliads and logging.
This species occurs in the Reserva Particular do Partimônio Natural Serra do Jequitibá.
Listed as Data Deficient in view of continuing uncertainties as to its extent of occurrence, status and ecological requirements.
