Taxonomic notes: Section empty

This species is known from the Serra dos Órgãos, in Rio de Janeiro State, Brazil. It has been recorded between 800-1,200m asl.

It was found to be common within its known range in the 1970s. However surveys in the past few years have not found any individuals. Surveys of the neighbouring suitable habitat are needed to establish whether or not it occurs there.

It is a forest species associated with streams. Reproduction is presumably by larval development in or near streams.

The known range of this species is within a protected area, so there are no known threats to its habitat, and the reason for the apparent decline is still unknown (but chytridiomycosis cannot be ruled out).

Its range overlaps with Parque Nacional da Serra dos Órgãos. Some other Cycloramphus species have declined for unexplained reasons, and so it is an urgent priority to rediscover populations of this species.

Listed as Data Deficient in view of the absence of recent information on its extent of occurrence, status and ecological requirements.
