What

Rocky Mountain Elk (cow & calf) Cervus elaphus ssp. nelsoni

Observer

Date

Description

These are the other two elk (a cow with a calf) that we saw. This shot and the one of the calf were taken about 10 min before sunrise and were really stretching the limits of the camera and me hand holding it to shoot.

What

Rocky Mountain Elk Cervus elaphus ssp. nelsoni

Observer

dwboston

Date

September 23, 2014 07:36 AM CDT

Description

In Yellowstone NP last week for several days. Usual areas in Madison valley were devoid of elk. Only saw this one near the Madison campground and two others nearby (see http://www.inaturalist.org/observations/903547) on a different day. We heard wolves in the area which may explain the scarceness of elk.
