Haida Gwaii Toad Community Monitoring

This is a volunteer-led initiative to monitor toad breeding sites on Haida Gwaii. Toads (Western toad; Anaxyrus boreas) are the only indigenous amphibian on Haida Gwaii. The toad is important to the Haida Nation, is a species of “Special Concern” federally, and many local people on Haida Gwaii intrinsically value the toad. Anyone can join!

Breeding site locations can be obtained by contacting haidagwaiitoads@gmail.com. If you're unsure if a toad observation is at a toad breeding site, you can select the "unsure" option (for the question asking if the observation is at a toad breeding site). Even if observations are not at a toad breeding site, you can still enter them in this project (just select "no" for the question asking if the observation is at a toad breeding site). These incidental observations that aren't at toad breeding sites are very useful for finding previously unrecorded toad breeding sites.

Make sure to set the privacy of your observations to "obscure".
