Unknown lichen with crazy cilia / rhizomes. Growing on a fallen twig / branch, plenty of coast live oak and bay around.
Probably the biggest one I've ever seen.
Blackened, weeping cracks in the bark, some crown death, no sign of Hypoxylon or beetle infestation yet. SOD is pretty well-established in this park, sadly.
The goal of this project is to keep track of the things that live in Huckleberry Botanic Preserve in Oakland, CA., with the ultimate goal of building checklists. The EBRPD already provides a good checklist for the flowering plants, but other groups of organisms aren't as well-represented.
