Observations submitted to this project will help document the habitat use and activity of protected wildlife around the coastlines of the island of Lāna‘i. Understanding how protected marine animals use the island's coastlines will help direct management activities and conservation.
Primary species of interest are include Hawaiian monk seals (endangered), Hawaiian green sea turtles (threatened), and hawksbill sea turtles (endangered).
We are interested in all sightings, including basking seals or turtles, animals in the water, and DEFINITELY monk seal moms and pups, or sea turtle nests. You can even submit sightings on the iNaturalist app while offline and they will sync when you get back to a WiFi signal.
