This project aims to identify the distribution of native lizard species in several New Zealand cities (at this stage, Hamilton, Wellington, and Dunedin). It is part of the People, Cities and Nature research programme. This research involves Waikato, Victoria and Otago universities, and Manaaki Whenua Landcare Research, working together towards restoring indigenous biodiversity in New Zealand's urban environments (www.peoplecitiesnature.co.nz).
We want to know if you have lizards in your backyard, at your school or in the places you work and play in these cities.
If you can snap a photo of a skink or gecko this will help us identify it's species, however, if this isn't possible just knowing where and when you saw a lizard is a huge help.
Understanding where lizards are living in our cities may enable us to learn more about what can be done to protect them so that they can be enjoyed by everyone.
