This project, curated by the Wissahickon Restoration Volunteers, aims to track non-native plants that have recently started appearing in the Wissahickon section of Philadelphia's Fairmount Park. We are collecting presence/absence data to determine if any species warrants active management/removal.
Help us with tracking! Add your observations of uncommon non-native plants, including those on our target list:
Actinidia (kiwi)
Arthraxon hispidus (small carpetgrass)
Berberis bealei (leatherleaf mahonia)
Cercidiphyllum japonicum (katsura tree)
Citrus trifoliata (trifoliate orange)
Corydalis incisa (incised fumewort)
Helleborus (hellebores)
Kalopanax septemlobus (castor-aralia)
Liriope (lilyturf)
Pterocarya (wingnut)
Rubus laciniatus (cutleaf blackberry)
Styrax japonicus (Japanese snowbell)
Symplocos paniculata (sapphire-berry)
Viburnum setigerum (tea viburnum)
You don't have to be certain of the ID before adding an observation to the project; we welcome 'maybe's.
What's not in the scope of this project are invasive species that are well established in the area, for example: garlic mustard, lesser celandine, winged euonymus, mugwort, Japanese knotweed, Norway maple, and wineberry.
