Island in the middle of the Rakaia River, Canterbury.

On 14 September 2013, members of the Canterbury Botanical Society explored Rakaia Island (ECan land, partly leased for grazing). Rakaia Island contains the largest continuous area of kanuka left on the Canterbury Plains, and some of the best remnants of other dryland vegetation types. Habitats explored included open grassland, riverbed, shrubland and kanuka forest.
