Description

Common species at site. This tree had large limbs near the forest floor, known as the "octopus tree".

Description

This polypodium was growing on a large douglas fir limb in the middle canopy.

Description

This epiphytic fern was growing on a fallen redwood, it appeared to have colonized the trunk after the log hit the ground which was unusual. Also, herbivory was seen on many of the fronds, it looked like sawfly damage observed commonly on western sword fern.

Description

Both a male and female were seen guarding the nest on top of this douglas fir snag. Egg shell fragments were seen on the forest floor.
