This is a catalogue of all Sequoiadendron giganteum in Yosemite Valley. Giant sequoias are native to the Sierra Nevada, including three groves in YNP, but non-native to Yosemite Valley. All of the existing sequoias in the Valley were planted or have spread from those which were planted. They are an impressively large species and have cultural/historic value. However, they also impact the environment as a non-native species using 500 gallons of water each day. These trees serve as an interesting debate for environmental ethics... Should the sequoias grow in the Valley?
This project is intended to simply satisfy our curiosities, seeking to find out how many sequoias are in the Valley and where they are.
