This project is an attempt to better understand the distribution of the five skunk species known to occur within Texas. Through recording observations of both live and dead (e.g. roadkilled animals) we hope to be better able to define the distributional limits and current status of these incredible mammals within Texas.
Additional information on the habitat, activities, and general nature of the observation (time observed etc) are welcome and will help us improve our understanding of the ecology of these often elusive animals.
Sightings of fresh roadkilled individuals of hog-nosed, hooded, or spotted skunks can be used to help salvage tissue samples for on-going genetic work with these species in the state.
