Turtle Road Watch is a crowd sourcing project aimed at identifying and monitoring areas of high turtle road mortality in the St. Louis region. This project was developed by the Saint Louis Zoo and concerned members of the St. Louis community to achieve the following goals:
PROJECT GOALS:
- Identify areas of high turtle road mortality in the St. Louis region.
- Utilize the data from this project to help provide strategies to minimize the negative interactions between humans and turtles.
- Designate and implement turtle crossing signs, and construct turtle underpasses at high-risk roads.
- To bring awareness to turtle conservation.
HOW YOU CAN HELP
This part is easy! All you have to do to help us collect data and report turtle sightings along our roads, streets and
highways in the St. Louis region is to follow these steps:
- Download the I-naturalist app and create an account.
- Join our project: Turtle Road Watch
- Submit your turtle road sightings through the I-naturalist program by following the project prompts and answering a few road location questions.
Please only add photos of your observations when it is safe to do so. DO NOT block traffic or PUT YOURSELF IN HARM'S WAY.
Your observations will be added to our I-naturalist map and be used to help us identify areas of concern.
Thanks for helping the St. Louis area become a safer place for turtles and tortoises!
