I need a little ID help for this bird on display at the Santa Cruz Museum of Natural History.
A pair of Virginia Rails were calling from the cattails and were coaxed out with several bouts of spishing.
Not sure why this rail was hanging out in my alley. Perhaps a secret recruit to the local rattus gang.
Crossing channel at high tide.
Observed poking around the cattail stubble.
The Virginia Rail (Rallus limicola) is a small waterbird, of the family Rallidae.
