Description

4 adults under same tree. Only 3 photographed (son photographed all 4).

On Tennessee Creek. This location consistently produces adult tailed frogs in late June/July time frame.

Two of these frogs were photographed from the location first observed and they never moved, and we never moved them to photograph.

The one frog is literally looking at a tree trunk.

Description from Wikipedia

The tailed frogs are two species of frogs in the genus Ascaphus, the only taxon in the family Ascaphidae /æˈskæfɨdiː/. The "tail" in the name is actually an extension of the male cloaca. The tail is one of two distinctive anatomical features adapting the species to life in fast-flowing streams. It is the only North American frog that reproduces by internal fertilization.
