Eastern Massasauga Rattlesnake (Sistrurus catenatus catenatus) from Hastings, Michigan. She had recently come out of her burrow and had a lot of silt on her, but to show her pattern better, I poured some water on her.
Sistrurus catenatus is a venomous pitviper species found primarily in the United States. Three subspecies are currently recognized, including the nominate subspecies described here.
