Eastern collared lizards, two very near each other, in the Wichita Mountains Wildlife Refuge of southern Oklahoma. This was near Lost Lake and its accompanying trail.
The trail running west, then south, of Lost Lake in the Wichita Mountains Wildlife Refuge in southern Oklahoma is a fantastic place to look for eastern collared lizards. They are extraordinarily abundant in this area.
The family Crotaphytidae, or Collared lizards, are desert-dwelling reptiles native to the Southwest USA and northern Mexico. They are very fast-moving animals, with long limbs and tails, and are carnivorous, feeding mainly on smaller lizards.
