Description

Curlycup Gumweed (Grindelia squarrosa)

23 July 2016
Greenbelt Park 428
Denton County, Texas

Encountered an area to the side of the trail that was growing several plants of Curlycup Gumweed. The Plants Database range map of the US Department of Agriculture indicates that this native wildflower grows extensively throughout North America. Curlycup Gumweed is present from the farthest northern reaches of Canada to all but seven states among the Lower 48 (all located in the Southeast of the country). Because of its extensive range in North America, Curlycup Gumweed is an authentic resident of the Western Hemisphere. Greenbelt Park 428 is administered by the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department.
