Photo 2 shows a plant in its seed pod phase, illustrating the inspiration for its common name.
These begin to appear in April on my property and new plants can continue producing new blooms through early summer. Some begin going to seed in May. Generally in the summer the seed pods open up to a mass of light fluffy, feathery content filled with seeds, which eventually will all blow away in the wind.
When conditions are right, these plants will again sprout and bloom in the early fall.
