Saw one in a large crevice on a rock pier. The water was 10 feet deep. In the same crevice was an adult Microspathodon bairdii.
This was a small (4") squirrelfish which never showed it's dorsal fin
Beryciformes is an order of ray-finned fishes. This is a poorly understood group of 7 families. Most species live in deep marine waters and avoid bright light, coming closer to the surface at night.
