This 12" fish was a new one for me. Xiphister atropurpureus (Black Prickleback)? It was moist and squirmy under a rock during the minus tide, right beside a couple of Flattop Crabs, acting just like the 4" gunnels I frequently find here. This one has the markings behind its eye like the photo in Andy Lamb. It wasn't possible to get a better photo because it writhed away.
This gunnel (?) has stripes coming out from its eyes. It was about 4" long, and hiding under a rock during the minus tide.
This Warbonnet was in good condition and not a shy as some. Perhaps it saw its reflection in my lens port.
Great coralline algae camouflage!
Maybe a baby monkey-faced eel?
Stayed in his rock hole despite being lifted out of water.
