Caught this fowler's toad a while back digging up soil for an experiment. I think I woke him up from hibernaculum.
A toad that was swimming in our pool after a rain storm. Light brown in coliration, could see the warts in the black spots. Lighter color down the middle of the back.
Toad-on-toad amplexus action!! Adults only!! I have decided to go with Fowler's Toad on these... but i welcome other suggestions (American toad would presumably be the only other option...).
Conditions were clear (20C, 70% humidity). Toad was found at Turkey Creek trailhead near picnic area and a wooden house structure. Toad was actively hopping before it was caught and photographed.
Fowler's toad (Anaxyrus fowleri syn. Bufo fowleri) is a species of toad in the family Bufonidae. It is native to North America, where it occurs in much of the eastern United States and parts of adjacent Canada.
