The town right next to Hermanus is called Vermont, which was a bit amusing to us.
On the 13th of August we joined an outing with a group of local birders which began at the Vermont salt pan, one of the best local sites.
Both greater and Lesser Flamingos were present, as well as a ton of other waterbirds.
Flamingos or Flamingoes ( Brazilian pronunciation (help·info)) are a type of wading bird in the genus Phoenicopterus (from Greek: φοινικόπτερος, meaning "purple wing"), the only genus in the family Phoenicopteridae. There are four flamingo species in the Americas and two species in the Old World.
