We were surprised to learn that there were large numbers (hundreds) of Greater Flamingos at the Ulcinj Saltpans. There were several small flocks pretty close to us, and then in the distance there was a massive area of pink on the water.
These are the same species we saw in Namibia last summer, so they have a pretty wide range.

Many years ago when the the Salton Sea was a resort destination many places brought in flamingos. They were actually breeding and numbering the 100s if not 1000s. With the demise of the area their numbers have dwindled to possibly this one last bird. Sometimes imported exotics don't establish themselves.
Flamingos or Flamingoes ( Brazilian pronunciation (help·info)) are a type of wading bird in the genus Phoenicopterus (from Greek: φοινικόπτερος, meaning "purple wing"), the only genus in the family Phoenicopteridae. There are four flamingo species in the Americas and two species in the Old World.
