Pair of medium-large, brightly colored birds with red bellies and bright yellow crowns. In stream-side trees along a rivulet feeding in to the Niger River. Poor photo, but enough for positive ID.
Not 100% confident of ID. Options are the black-crowned vs the brown-crowned tchagra. This perspective isn't ideal, but the black forehead seems heavy and no brown is seen.
The bushshrikes are smallish passerine bird species. They were formerly classed with the true shrikes in the family Laniidae, but are now considered sufficiently distinctive to be separated from that group as the family Malaconotidae.
