A large adult and an immature with a still-blue tail (shown) seen under horizontal eaves between 1st and 2nd floors of apartment complex. Wall was south-facing, at 1615 hrs, in full sunlight, ambient temperature 27.7 C.
There was a wild five-lined skink basking on the rocks. It was about 4 inches long.
The (American) Five-lined Skink (Eumeces fasciatus) is one of the most common lizards in the eastern U.S. and one of the five species of lizards in Canada. Other common names include Blue-tailed Skink (for juveniles) and Red-headed Skink (for adults).
