Snorkeled today at lunch around jetties and attracted hundreds of silversides. Broke up some Hemigrapsus (crabs) and made a little feeding community of these and black sea bass, cunner, tautog, etc.
Captured several dozen in seine along shore with the UC Lab School field trip. Some very large specimens (e.g. 5-6 inches).

The Neotropical silversides are a family, Atherinopsidae, of fishes in the order Atheriniformes. About 104 species in 13 genera are distributed throughout the tropical and temperate waters of the New World, including both marine and freshwater habitats. The familiar grunions and Atlantic silverside belong to this family.
