Found under rock in tide pool shortly before dark. I think this is a Stichaeopsis species, but while this genus is recognized in inaturalist.org, the ID defaults to Perch-like Fishes. Peterson filed Guide calls this a "Masked Prickleback", but that common name is not recognized by inaturalist either. My knowledge of marine fishes is limited, so I could be entirely wrong. All feedback is helpful.
About 4" long; interesting "crest" on its head. Found among vertical seaweeds on dock. Really need to get an Eastern Pacific fish field guide - any recommendations?
I guess these are almost impossible to identify.
Found this fish wedged into a piddock bore under a rock. Ron called it as a kelpfish, and I'm pretty sure he's right, but I'm not sure if I captured enough info to get to species. If you have any tips, please chime in.
