Taken at Brown's Lake.
I was excited to flush this Clay-colored Sparrow from the sagebrush. This is a species I only ever see during migration in central Texas. It acted like it was going back and forth to and from a nest in a nearby sage brush but I could not locate the nest.
Looking at this photo almost a year later, I believe it's a Brewer's Sparrow.
Brewer's Sparrow (Spizella breweri) is a small, slim species of American sparrow in the family Emberizidae. This bird was named after the ornithologist Thomas Mayo Brewer.
