I have been an observer of nature since my father began teaching me about my natural surroundings in Markleeville, Alpine County, California where we camped for 6 years while he was doing his geologic field work for his Ph.D. thesis. It was important to him that his small daughter would know the dangers of the rattlesnakes, bear and other potential dangers. He then went on to teach me how to know my way through the forest so I would not get lost. Through the years, I learned more and more about the trees, plants and animals that were a part of my world beyond my house. I also spent time studying the stars. As an adult, I became an amateur mycologist.

I am a photographer/videographer with photos of many natural activities wherever I go. I have been a non-profit professional, primarily in the arts. In recent years, I have been deeply involved in geotourism, with an emphasis on cultural heritage tourism and through it creating a mindset of being a visitor who wants to help sustain the area visited. Leave no trace.

I am also a guide for the Donner Party Hikes along the Emigrant Trail and other heritage trails in the Donner Summit area. These hikes provide history, geology, and information about the natural environment. There is an annual event that gives people the opportunity to learn and explore.
