We are running a project that explores how the beauty of butterflies shapes our conservation choices: “Unveiling.”
As part of this work, we developed an online test that asks participants to mark a series of pictures of European butterflies (taken from iNaturalist). Other parts of the test explore other aesthetic responses. Our aim is to understand how different species capture human attention, and whether aesthetic preferences influence which species we tend to notice, study, photograph, and ultimately protect. This information can help refine conservation priorities and identify effective flagship species for engaging the public.
