This is a sister project of
'Specific animal-plant interactions in Europe'.
In this project the focus lies on animals with a close relationship to a small number of plant species.
The purposes of this project are:
to show interesting ecological associations motivation to document the plant as well to provide help in
a) searching & finding and;
b) identifying animals when the host plant is known.
Please also read 'terms and rules'
If a species has a broader spectrum of host plants but is rarely found (or reported on iNat), they are acceptable for this project as well, but only in those cases when you would consider it worth to investigate the host plant in search of that animal. This might be the case for example for (newly) introduced species associated with some exotic shrub in gardens etc.
Other possible observations:
-oligolectic bee species;
-aphids and caterpillars;
-miners and gall producers;
-true bugs and leafhoppers;
The project should include both the animal and the plant, so one has to add two separate observations, which should be linked with each other (required field). Please also fill out the other specific fields for the animal and the plant, respectively.
To increase the value of this project, it would also be great (not mandatory) to give some additional background information in the description of the observation.
All Specific animal-plant interactions projects are under an Umbrella Project.
