Here are some tips and tricks to finding and identifying bees on Oxy's campus.
Bees are pollinators, so the best place to find them is around flowers. Bees begin to fly at around 9 am when it begins to get sunny, and stop flying around dusk. Bees in Southern California looooooove African daisies, California buckwheat, lavender, California lilacs, and clover blossoms. If you sit by a patch of flowers and look very closely you will surely find some bees. Taking pictures of bees can be difficult because they are so small. Zoom in as much as possible while getting as close as possible without bothering bees (they do sting). When trying to take a picture of honey bees, be extra careful to not disturb them because some are Africanized and are highly aggressive. They won't bother you, if they don't bother them!
