These are the Odonata (dragonflies and damselflies) found at Colleyville Nature Center.*
The following have short, early flight seasons generally starting around March and ending well before June:
-Epitheca cynosura
-E. petechialis
-E. semiaquea
-Didymops transversa
The following species have been seen but uncommon at the park (one or two individuals seen and not spotted consecutive years); they may have been vagrants:
-Erythemis plebeja
-Libellula comanche
-Sympetrum vicinum
-Macromia illinoiensis
Species found at the park but in typically smaller numbers and limited areas/highly specific locations include:
-Calopteryx maculata (W3 runoff stream)
-Hetaerina americana (S1, W3 runoff stream)
-H. titia (W4)
-Epiaeschna heros (G, W4)
-Nasiaeschna pentacantha (G, W2, W3, T1)
-Erythemis vesiculosa (W3)
-Sympetrum ambiguum (S1, W3, E3)
-S. vicinum (G, E1)
-Didymops transversa (G, W4, W5)
I hope to include a map soon with corresponding data...at that point, the locator numbers in parenthesis will make sense.
Most species not listed in the previous categories are ubiquitous near water throughout the park during their flight seasons.
*This list is currently not complete. There are a number of species yet to be added, including some gomphids and possibly a few more zygopterans.
I am also going through and adding information about species with multiple generations and other useful or interesting information but it is currently incomplete as I have not applied it to every species (as of 06.29.17). Hope to finish soon.
