Large tree greater than 15 meters tall liberally covered with thorns. Differentiated from other thorny trees by presence of hesperidia and trifoliate leaves.

Description

Small shrub differentiated from yellow honeysuckle by scent of flower (not collected due to insufficient number), ID confirmed with J. Gore, S. Schratz, ASU teaching specimens.

Northern Catalpa (Catalpa speciosa)

Description

Very large tree approximately 20 meters tall with fading leaves, most fruits already dropped. Fruit is a green elongated capsule, was used to differentiate from Catalpa speciosa. Differentiated from Campsis radicans by that species's vine habit.

20+ meter tall tree with lichen-covered, non-fissured bark. Leaves roughly t-shaped-used to differentiate from other Quercus sp.

Description

Tall, slender shrub approx. 10 feet tall. Trunk covered in prickles with many in ringlets. Leaves bi-pinnately compound and some with prickles. Fruit dark purple and in an umbel.
