Western Lesser Siren (Siren nettingi)

Observer

Date

Description

Larry Ditto and I seined about a dozen amphibians we did not recognize from a small stock tank on a private ranch in Kenedy Co. We tried to photograph them on land, but they were slippery and hard to hold. We got a few shots on wet grass, then released them back into the tank. We tentatively identified them as Rio Grande Lesser Sirens after looking through some field guides.

I'm having a difficult time trying to figure out what kind of caterpillar this is. It has a white line that runs down the center of its back. It also has what I would describe as eye markings that are blue and they run down both sides of it.

Found this dead frog on the floor of the university. It was dusty in the fingers, looks like it was hit by a broom and then swept.

Was about 8 inches and very yellow. Why people do this sort of thing with such wonderful creatures? Always the same sad reaction...
