In coast range rain forest out in very moist mossy area of well developed second growth mixed forest, doug fir, cedar, alder and vine maple. About 6" long.
Salamanders were common because it was an estuary and several people recorded seeing them around the water edge.
Very small, about 2in long or smaller. Found dead on the trail with marsh/wetland on either side. I wonder if it was a baby. Skin was dried so it's hard to tell what color it was on top, but I think mostly black everywhere else. Possibly yellow or green stripe down back?
This was under my boot when I stepped back after looking at some moss. It seemed ok. Is it a baby rough skinned newt?
