This snake was stationary on the side road leading to Encino Reservoir off of "dirt Mulholland," but he began heading for cover as soon as I approached to take a photo. The pictures aren't great because of low light and the snakes refusal to pose.
Multiple individuals and numerous whiptail tracks were seen in the area. There seemed to be much more whiptail activity than I have observed in this area previously. Maybe the whiptails are more active during the higher humidity of the "June Gloom."
While photographing a Western Fence Lizard, this whiptail bolted from underneath an overhanging piece of concrete and up the adjacent slope. The photos are horrible, but it ran under the bush when I tried to get closer so I didn't get any better photos.
