What

Yellow-tailed Black Cockatoo (Zanda funerea)

Observer

Date

Description

Habitat - Backyard
How many? - 4
Additional comments? - Front yard really. Four absolutely gorgeous birds feasting on banksia seeds. Doing a ba g up job of pruning with their strong beaks. Biting off entire branches to get at the dried flower heads. Quite a good piffing action with the unwanted branch over the edge of the bush with a flick of the head. Finished off with a preen and tidy up of the feathers after dinner :-) An absolute joy to have them come visit. I think this is only the 4th or 5th time we've seen them land in our garden to feed in the 20 years we've lived here. They regularly fly over morn and night, often see them on the nearby Warburton trail, but rarely drop in.

Description

Habitat - Backyard
How many? - 2
Additional comments? - Pair of birds popped in for a bath. Rainwater had collected in the tray beneath the metal fire pit thingy. They were happily flying down for a swish then sitting back on the rim for a preen before dipping in again. Bath time over it was back to the serious business of dinner finding. Looking for bugs in the grass and in the tree bark.
