UTSW Rookery
Every now and then, while walking the rookery perimeter path, you run into a bird right in the middle of where you need to go. They normally don't linger so good time to just stop and take a few shots while you wait on them to grab a stick and move on.
UTSW rookery
I had previously found both an immature male and a female eastern pondhawk at the rookery so I was glad when this visit produced a mature male pondhawk. Immature males look like the females, mainly green. When they mature they turn a blue color but keep the green face that identifies them as eastern pondhawks. He completed my documentation that Eastern pondhawks can be found there.

There were 6 hens and about 4-5 males walking around in the front yard of a house we drove by.
