Two plants growing along my sandy driveway. Never seen them before. Tiny flowers. In checking Dunwiddie's Nantucket Wild Flowers, maybe Eupatorium hyssopifolium?
Evergreen, leaves narrow-obovate, up to 20mm wide, fragrant. Immediately recognizable from my time in southern coastal plain. Single shrub growing with Morella pensylvanica, both just beginning to flower.
Not quite cespitose but not quite clonal. Less than 1m tall despite very tall V. corymbosum nearby. Leaves phenologically advanced ahead of corymbosum but closer to angustifolium.
In between ruts of a sand road. Plants identified at an earlier location had light brown seeds.
