Description

Tenthredo ferruginea - Feeding on Rubus
Length: 20 mm
Larva: July-Aug-Sept.

Characteristics:

  • Dark head on top. Brighter in the lower part. The line is curved upwards
  • The body light brown with darker netpatterns and more darker wedgepatterns.
  • Thorakallegs has a dot on the hip joint etc.

Description

Young larva - length: 9 mm.

Found on Crataegus - underside of a leaf.
The younger larva can be lila but later change to Olivegreen or brownish back.

Head: Lightbrown/Orange, above grossly redyellowish dotted, with a black spot on the top and below each eyespot.

2 x 7 prolegs

On each segment across there is 3 lines of white, black-edged warts.

Many foodplants: Sorbus, Crataegus, Betula, Corylus, Rubus, Prunus spinosa...

Arge Gracilicornis - Living on Rose, Rubus and Rosa canina.
Length: 20 mm
Common

Characteristics:

  • Colour: Rosy to Grass-green or light Lilac
  • First segment is Yellow.
  • Yellow sidespots with dark spots above.
  • 2 dorsal, parallel lines of dark spots
  • 2 x 6 prolegs

Description

Length: 16 mm

The larva is living on Betula pendula and Betula pubescens Aug and primarily Sept-Okt

The antennas are rather rudimentary and nearly some cirkles in the head.

Each segment has 6 annulets, with quite small bristles on 1, 2 and 4. annulet.

6 prolegs + 1 analprolegs

It graws away the upper epidermis on the leaf, making small brown areas on it, without spoiling the overall shape of the leaf.
Resting on the underside at day.
