Description

Loose creeping mat on large limestone boulder (photos 1 and 2 by Woody832). 24-7. Leaves friable, dull green, erect when dry. Leaf tips broken off on older stems and branches (photos 3-4). Leaves oblong ligulate, 2 mm, cells pluripapillose; costa ending below apex, often forked (photos 5-6). Apex rounded, obtuse (photos 7-8). Basal juxtacostal cells on one side of costa short- rectangular to quadrate and papillose, and on other side long rectangular and smooth (photo 9).

Description

Wet soil in coniferous woods. 23-537. Branch leaves cucullate, chlorocyst walls smooth without papillae or pectinations (photos 4-8). Stem leaves lingulate (photos 9-10). Stem cortical cells with fibrils and pores (photo 11). Leaf cross-sections with triangular chorocysts with more broadly exposed on concave surface (photos 12-14).

Description

On beech tree. Loose mat with pinnate branching. Capsules erect at base, curved below mouth. Leaves ovate lanceolate, 0.6-1mm, ecostate, gradually acuminate, margins serrulate. Alar cells small, quadrate, thick walled. Weakly decurrent with 1-3 enlarged hyaline cells. Pseudoparaphyllia subfoliose.

Description

Stringy moss on bark. Some branches ending in swollen tips. Capsules cylindrical, erect to inclined, 1.5-2 mm (photos 3-6). Endostome segments shorter than exostome teeth. Stem leaves ovate lanceolate, <1mm, long acuminate with some curved tips, costa subpercurrent, rolled borders (photos 7-12). Cells unipappilose (photo 13) Branch leaves oblong, 0.5 mm, apex acuminate to rounded obtuse, sometimes curved (photos 14-18).

Description

Near path in spruce-hemlock forest. 23-489. Plants green, capitulum small, stellate (photos 1-2). Subgenus acutifolia - single branch bud between rays of stellate capitulum, stem leaves point towards capitulum, and branch leaf cross-sections with triangular chlorocysts with base on concave surface. Two spreading branches (photo 3). Branch lvs lanceolate, 1.2-1.8mm (photo 4). Stem lvs triangular-lingulate, 1.2 mm, apex acute to somewhat rounded (photos 5-6). Hyalocysts on concave surface with fibrils (photos 7-8). Hyalocysts on convex surface with pores and fibrils (photos 9-10). Stem cortical cells without pores or fibrils (photos 11-12). Stem cross-section without clear demarcation between scleroderm and central parenchyma (13-15). Branch leaf cross-sections with triangular chlorocysts with base on concave surface (16-17).
