Description

We think these are Porpita porpita (blue button jelly fish), but have never seen them before. There were a bunch floating in the tide off the Seawall beach Tuesday, August 9th. We released the two from the bucket after taking the picture.

Description

This large fish (about five inches longer than the Needlefish I posted from this day) moved slowly in the shallow water, and liked to be in the shade of the mangroves along the river bank. This is in brackish water along the Peace River.

Description

When I walk and bike along the cycleway by the San Gabriel River, I commonly see large silver and grey fish jumping out of the water.

Today I finally managed to get photos of some of them (not the easiest thing with an old manual-focus telephoto lens).

Does anyone know the species? They have a dark olive back, silver belly and sides, and a yellowish tail.
