Painted turtle on a log! Have observed only a few individuals basking during these recent hot, over 90 degree days.
Have also seen several painted turtles vigorously foraging (?) in the aquatic vegetation.
The humidity was so very high as to be debilitating. And the drought condition has apparently condensed the fish population, if the number of great blue herons and great egrets is a good indicator.
These waders mingle with two mute swans and their one surviving offspring.

This mature individual was missing part of its left forelimb. Did not seem to be much impaired and was eager to get on its way.
These old turtles have very expressive eyes!
