CNPS Mt Diablo Trip May 27

Ken-ichi Ueda
Couldn't find an email address for you in CNPS or iNaturalist. Unfortunately I can't come on the May 27 meetup, but walked the Bowerman Trail on May 19 and 20. Was surprised to find a single Emmananthe penduliflora plant and a single Phacelia phacellioides plant about 20 yards down(east) from the main Calystegia malacophylla patch on the south-facing part of the trail. Both were on the uphill side of the trail, the Emmananthe was about 3 feet from the trail and the Phacelia was about 8 feet away at eye-level. Unfortunately the focusing broke on my iPhone camera, so I couldn't take photos and only later realized that I could have taen a photo just to capture the exact GPS coordinates. There used to be many of both species at this location for 3 years after the Morgan fire but I haven't seen them here for the past few years.

Also, couldn't find any Rattan monkeyflower at all in the usual area.

I have been leading public and private wildflower walks on Mt. Diablo for many years for MDIA and have been keeping an updated handout list of wildflowers on the Mary Bowerman Trail. I would be happy to send you the list, which includes common names and species names in Excel to use as you wish. Just send me an email address to send it to or tell me where to post it. I think you must have my email address at iNaturalist.

Best regards,
Phil Reed
