I'm saddened by the cavalier attitudes toward wildlife demonstrated by all the animal carcasses left in the wake of human locomotion. Our species repeatedly demonstrates a tendency to run over whatever gets in our way, to hell with the consequences. All lives, human and non human animal alike, are diminished as a result.
I am among the small percentage of people who simply cannot pass by a dead animal lying on the road. When I act on the necessity I feel to move the corpse to a spot well away from the road, I accomplish two things: the animal receives a more honorable end and the meat is available for opportunistic scavengers to dine without risk of harm from traffic.
I hope my observations of roadkill will prompt action to provide animals a safe way to get to their destinations without having to enter a gauntlet of speeding hunks of metal.
