I am a geologist and retired teacher. I taught science at Wooster High School in Wooster, Ohio. Classes I taught include Physical Science, Biology, Botany, Physical Geology, Historical Geology, and I assisted with two classes offered to area high school students, Western Field Studies and Marine Biology. These two classes included 30 hours of class instruction followed by a week long field experience. The Western Field Studies experience was in Wyoming at the Teton Science School, and the Marine Biology experience was at the Marine Lab in Key Largo, Florida.
After retiring I have completed training as an Ohio Certified Volunteer Naturalist, and have volunteered primarily at The Wilderness Center in Wilmot, Ohio and helped with projects for the Ohio Department of Natural Resources. I recently became a Commissioner with the Wayne County Park District. Our current project involves creating a fully ADA system of trails, observation deck and pavilion at the Barnes Preserve in Wayne County, Ohio. This is a 76 acre plot of mature forest, open meadow and ponds and wetlands.
I enjoy helping people connect, or reconnect with nature. I love to sketch wildlife. The attention required forces me to look at things in detail and helps me associate identifying features and behaviors with different species of organisms. I have recently started photographing things and I find I have a lot to learn. I was always been interested in birds but have developed a new interest in prairie plants, insects (especially dragonflies), and reptiles and amphibians.
