I am a semi-retired Field Biologist with my focus on Invertebrates and particularly Entomology. I have conducted my work throughout Southern California and have created a personal insect collection. Normally I would not collect but since I was aware that 95-97% of my projects were going to involve development I and my partner collected to be used as the sample inventory for that particular area.
Due to physical challenges I am limited to a wheelchair but having been blessed with an array field experience and observations (20 years) and personal passion for Butterflies (59+ years), I desire to share my observations, locations and photos.
My strength is as a Entomological Ecologist. I love looking at the WHY of a species location. I am well respected and one of the fore-most experts on the Hermes Copper (Lycaena hermes), Federally Threatened and the Endangered Quino Checkerspot Butterfly (Euphydryas editha quino). I am also sought after regularly on 4 other sensitive species of Butterflies as well as moving into native plant pollination within Southern California. Even though I have a very good foundation on Bee Fauna, San Diego County is continually growing in species of bees (700+ per post-doctorate James Hung, USD). Not including the 60%+ species of flies and 35%+ species of Beetles. So regionally native plant pollination is a must yet we have little interest. But I keep remaining to 'squeaky wheel' to get funding to our Universities and Colleges.
